Stupid mistakes in social media

My colleague David Spark wrote a fun piece for Mashable on mistakes, that happen once in a while to all of us :-) enjoy this excerpt:

Have you made any colossally stupid mistakes in social media? In a guest post today on Mashable, I interviewed many social media gurus on some of the biggest missteps they’ve made in social media. Here’s a quick list of my favorites:

  1. Hire a voice talent for $2,000 to read a podcast for you
  2. - Paul Dunay, Global Director of Integrated Mktg at BearingPoint

  3. Participate in flame wars to increase traffic
  4. - Dana Gardner, founder of Interarbor Solutions.

  5. Assume that social media doesn’t exist until you arrive
  6. - Chris Brogan, social media strategist

  7. Post a comment on your own Facebook profile wall
  8. - David M. Scott, author of “The New Rules of Marketing and PR”

  9. Accept friend requests from people you barely know
  10. - Robin Wolaner, founder of TBD.com

  11. Stalk women on Facebook
  12. - Stewart Alsop, partner of Alsop Louie Partners
